DESCRIPTION: 1 ALS from Alexander W. Lufborough to his father, Nathan Lufborough (the first), from on board the U.S.S. Constitution, (1 Oct 1814). Folder also includes xeroxes of newsclippings concerning Charles W. Lyons, S.J., President of Georgetown University. Lyons used the letter to help raise funds to preserve the ship in the Georgetown and greater Catholic community, pointing out that Alexander Lufborough had been a student the College from 1810 to 1812. Also in the folder is a typescript of the letter.

DESCRIPTION: 1 folded sheet containing a brief letter (29 Sept 1803) from Nathaniel Lufborough (the first) to William Thornton regarding the sale of a mare, Maria, by Lufborough to Thornton, a pedigree by Lufborough for Thornton and a brief signed statement by Thornton on the payment of $250 equivalent for the horse. The last page contains a statement, probably written by a farm employee of Thornton's, regarding the death of the mare probably some years later (undated).

Includes the following items: 1 document granting Margaret C. Loughborough a job for one month as a clerk for the Treasury Department of the Confederate States of America (28 Nov 1864); 1 ALS granting permission to Margaret Loughborough to travel "North by Flag of Truce Steamer," signed by John E. Mulford, Lt. Colonel U.S. Office Assistant Agent for Exchange of Prisoners, Ft. Monroe, Va. (6 Jan 1865); 1 document granting James H. Loughborough (2nd) release as a prisoner of war by the U.S. Government (20 Apr 1865); 2 oaths of loyalty to the United States government signed by James H. Loughborough (24 May 1865 & 21 Sept 1867); and 1 blank medical certificate signed by a surgeon (1864).
